Just Finished…

It’s been a minute since I did one of these, but we are just going to stick with last week’s reading.

Last week I finished 3 books. First up was The Sea Within by Missouri Vaun. This is a climate fiction that uses time travel to try and solve the climate crisis (namely the death of the ocean). I loved the concept, but I wanted a little more from it, and I thought the writing could have used some more editing.

The next book I read was Grief is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter. As with Lanny I really enjoyed Porter’s writing style, it’s so unique and really makes his stories special. I didn’t connect with this one as much as Lanny, but I think I would have benefitted from some background knowledge of Ted Hughes’s work.

Finally I read The (Most Unusual) Haunting of Edgar Lovejoy by Roan Parrish. This was super cheesy and very fitting for a Halloween read if you’re after something for October. It was okay overall,

Currently…

I’m currently reading 3 books. (Braiding Sweetgrass is on pause at the moment).

For fiction, I am reading the short story collection Seasons of Glass and Iron by Amal El-Mohtar. I’ve only just started so no real thoughts yet, but I do love the writing.

I picked up The Return of the Oystercatcher by Scott Weidensaul, from the Wainwright shortlist. I really like Weidensaul’s books, he’s such a knowledgeable person and you can tell how passionate he is about ornithology. I’m enjoying this one a lot.

I’m still reading Ocean by David Attenborough and Colin Butfield. I’m really enjoying it so far, and the reason I haven’t read it faster is because I have the very large and heavy hardback copy so it’s not really transportable or easy to read away from a table! I love it though, the pictures really add to the information.

Up Next…

I’m not sure what fiction I will read next, but for non-fiction I will pick up Stone Lands by Fiona Robertson, another Wainwright shortlister.
