WWW Wednesday: 6/8/25

,

Happy Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly recap meme hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words, where we share what we’re reading and what’s up next on the tbr.

Once again, I am reading two books this week.

I’m still reading Green Rider 7, Winterlight. It’s 848 pages, okay! It is the last currently published novel in the series.

I am about to pick up my next non-fiction, and I have chosen A Training School for Elephants by Sophy Roberts. This is on the Wainwright Prize shortlist for Conservation Writing and one I have really been looking forward to. Sophy follows in the footsteps of King Leopold II of Belgium as he set up a ‘school’ for elephants in Africa, so he could have a resource to extract ivory. I am expecting it to make me very sad, but hopefully, there will be positives from the modern day too.

Just one book was finished this last week, to have or to hold by Sophie Pavelle. A non-fiction book about symbiosis – relationships between different species. Such a brilliant book, and I am sad it didn’t make it onto the Wainwright shortlists this year.

I’m going to be focusing on non-fiction this month, as the Wainwright Prize shortlists are now out, and the winner is announced on 10th September. Once I have finished ‘…Elephants’, I plan to pick up The Possibility of Tenderness by Jason Allen-Paisant.

I’m actually planning a separate post about the Wainwright Prize, so if that’s of interest to you, keep an eye out!

Fiction-wise, I will be reading Land of the Last Wildcat by Lui Sit, as it is on the Wainwright Children’s Fiction list. Aside from that, I am not sure if I will have time for any other fiction, but if I do, it will be Falling in a Sea of Stars by Kristen Britain, and/or The Sun Blessed Prince by Lindsey Byrd.
