Happy Friday! I hope you all have wonderful weekends ahead!
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish discussion meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and co-hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits and Dini @DiniPandaReads. Each Friday, bloggers will write posts about a particular topic and share on their blog.
This week, we’re talking about the dreaded reading slump.

What’s the difference between a reading slump and bookish hangover—do you think there’s a difference? How do you get out of both situations?
We’re going to be short and sweet this week because I have never been in a reading slump. Sorry to be that person! I have, of course, had times where I didn’t pick up a book for a little while, but it’s never been because of a ‘slump’. It’s usually the business of life or some other external situation that means I genuinely don’t have time to read, or I am too tired at the end of the day and go to bed early instead of reading. During those times I want to read, and they usually only happen for very short periods of time. I think that books that would put me in a slump are ones I just DNF because I am not feeling them, so it never gets to that point.
I’ve definitely experienced a book hangover, though only for half a day, maybe a day. I’m not sure how long they’re supposed to be to count – I don’t even know if that short amount of time counts, but I can definitely relate to the feelings of one!
As to how to get out of them… well, the hangovers wear off so quickly that I don’t need to try. I’ve been a reader for so long that eventually it just feels wrong not to be reading. Sorry again, not helpful!
I have seen it said that going back to a comfort read, or a favourite genre can help. I have definitely had moments where I have no idea what to pick up next, and I revert back to my beloved comfort reads for the n’th time!
What are examples of books that put you in a reading slump and books that caused you to have a book hangover?
So… no slumpy books here. Book hangover books though… They’re few and far between, but here we go:
Sistersong by Lucy Holland. I had no idea what to do with myself when I finished this book apart from cry, lol. If you know me by now, then you know that is not usual!
Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young. The atmosphere of this book was so dang good that all I wanted was more of it. Sadly, I was on holiday and only had an epic fantasy book to follow up with, so I spent a day avoiding that one!
Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao. Much for the same reasons as above. I seem to get bookish hangovers from books that have particularly atmospheric or whimsical worlds because I love them so much!
The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. This is an odd one, and I’m not sure it counts as an actual book hangover, but I did have to not read anything for at least a day after finishing this book because it was a lot, and I to this day am not sure I fully understand it!
And that’s it. Well, it’s all the ones I can remember at least. I think it helps that my reading is so varied in genre and subject that I always have something new or exciting to pick up.
