Let’s Talk Bookish: Favourite bookish accessories.

Happy Friday! It’s been a chaotic but lovely week with my sister visiting, and it means that I am frantically writing this on Friday morning because I haven’t had time to prepare any posts!

Our next topic for April is all about bookish accessories.

I don’t generally collect much of anything (books aside, though I definitely wouldn’t call myself a collector anymore), but my one weakness is bookmarks. I tend not to collect bookmarks that are very generic, but ones that will remind me of something. I like to pick up bookmarks as souvenirs from events or places I have visited, rather than ones that relate to a specific book. They don’t take up much space and I use them basically every day too, and they’re a lovely reminder of places I’ve seen and people I’ve experienced something with.

As someone who doesn’t really like ‘stuff’ I feel like most things are overdone (yes, even bookmarks!), especially being in the fantasy space. Candles are a big one for me – I don’t know anyone who uses that many candles. Random plastic accessories too like keychains and trinkets I hate. Sorry.
For me, I don’t think it’s so much the volume, though it is excessive, but the price tag that people ascribe to these things that makes me tired of them, though that is a conversation for another day.

  1. Same here! I don’t collect anything other than books. Some bookish stuff can be very expensive and I don;t really get it myself. I’d rather give that money for books instead, but to each their own and that is totally fine! 🙂

    1. For sure, especially these days with prices of everything increasing so much.

  3. Great post! I do enjoy a pretty bookmark (and received one as a gift just last month) but I find that I have too many that sit unused because I always think they’re too pretty to be used! 😂 It’s a lovely idea to collect bookmarks from places you’ve been though.

I admit that I never bought bookish candles on my own and only received the ones I have (of which there are too many!) from book boxes. It used to be such a popular thing in book boxes and there was one almost monthly! I do think that’s just a bit too overdone, so I can relate to what you said. Thanks for joining LTB this week! 💜

    1. I like to match my bookmarks to what I am reading so I get use out of most of mine!
I used to get book boxes years ago and yes they always had a candle! I never used them haha, I ended up regifting most of them.
