Just Finished…

Last week I finished 3 books. First up was Her Roots Reclaimed, an eARC from Danielle Lauren (whose street team I am on). It follows a girl in the 16th Century who is ostracised for being a witch because of her hair colour. Turns out she is actually immortal, and in the modern day she is searching for others like her. I really enjoyed it, and I love Dani’s writing. ARC signups are still open, so if you like the sound of it, jump on while you still can!

The next book I read was Break Room by Mi-ye Lee. I was really interested to see what she’s written after loving DallerGut, but this one was just okay for me. I thought the concept was really interesting, but felt like I needed more from it. While I didn’t necessarily need a whole novel, it could have been a bit longer so we could have explored the theme more in depth.

Finally I read The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow. Why did I wait 5 years to read this??? It was amazing. The writing is incredible, the sister relationships are brilliantly written and the whole thing was just perfect. Definitely a contender for favourite of the year.

Currently…

I’m currently reading 3 books. I won’t talk about Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer again, but it’s still here.

I’m still reading Ocean by David Attenborough and Colin Butfield. I’m really enjoying it so far, and the reason I haven’t read it faster is because I have the very large and heavy hardback copy so it’s not really transportable or easy to read away from a table! I love it though, the pictures really add to the information.

Finally I have picked up Wilderlands by Eloise Kane. This one is transportable, so it’s what I am reading when I am not reading Ocean. I’ve only just started it though, so no thoughts yet. It’s a non-fiction looking at the history of Britain for the last 12000 years through the lens of human interaction with nature. It’s on the Wainwright Prize longlists for this year, which is a prize I try and read from each summer.

Up Next…

I have no idea what I am going to read next. My main focus will be working my way through some of the books on the Wainwright Prize lists for 2026, so I expect it will be another from those!
