Let’s Talk Bookish: In which season do you do your best reading?

Happy Friday! I’ve been sick all week and didn’t have anything pre-written, so sorry for the silence here!

Today, we’re discussing how your reading habits might fluctuate with the seasons.

I tend to be a fairly consistent reader on the whole. I think I average about 6 books a month, though that does go up and down a little. What I have noticed is that each year, there seems to be one month when I decide to be an overachiever, but that month is never the same one each year. I have no idea why, it’s not something that I do deliberately, but it’s happened over the last few years.

This year, March was that month, when I read 15 books. Last year it was August with 13, and in 2023 it was May with 13 again. Outside of those months, my number of books rarely goes above 9, and I have dipped as little as 2, but 6 seems to be my average. I have no idea why these crazy reading months happen. Nothing changes in my schedule, I don’t take long holidays away, I don’t go to school with a summer break, I just work and live a fairly regular, quiet life. I can’t even say it’s because of the weather. I live in the UK, our weather is so unpredictable that summer might appear in April and winter in July lol.

As I said, my reading tends to be pretty steady through the months and years. Over the last three years I have read between 70-80 books each year which I think is very steady! Before that I didn’t put reading as a priority, so 50 books was usually my maximum there, but now that it’s a hobby and a love of mine, I make sure to make time for it, which I think also helps with that consistency. It looks like I am on track to read over 80 books this year though, as I am currently on 76!

In 2 weeks I start at university as a mature student, and I’ll still be working, so I am going to predict that this answer will change soon. I suspect I will have reading spikes over term breaks, and that my monthly average will decrease! It’ll be interesting to see what happens to my stats from now on.

  1. Ohh I’m sorry to hear you are unwell! Hope you are doing better now.

Same as me this March I read 15 books and it was my most prolific month. But I never stay consistent with my reading I have found that out haha. Anyway, congratulations on the university, can I ask what you will be studying?

  3. Oh no, sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling unwell all week… I hope that you feel better soon, Emma! Thanks for joining LTB even while you’re feeling under the weather. 💜

It’s so interesting to see that there’s one month a year where you decide to just read all the books! That’s pretty interesting. I don’t think that happens with me although I do have months throughout the year when my reading dips more than usual. So far this year August was my prolific reading month when in past years it’s the month when my reading starts to dip! 🤭

    1. Well my brain was not working enough to remember to change the post title lol oops!

It is interesting, especially because it’s never been the same month! I honestly have no idea why, my life is not that varied.
