WWW Wednesday: 18/6/25

,

Hello, happy Wednesday! It’s been a while since I joined in with this meme, but I thought it was about time I did again!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly recap meme hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words, where we share what we’re reading and what’s up next on the tbr.

I’m currently reading two books, as is usual for me, one fiction and one non-fiction.

I’m nearing the end of my Green Rider reread, and have started book 7, Winterlight. This is the last published novel (there is a further novella), and I am so excited to read this beast of a book (848 pages!!) again. I’ve only read this once before, since I reread the whole series with each release, so I am sure there’s a lot of stuff I’ve forgotten about. And then it’ll be on to my arc of book 8, eee!

My non-fiction is to have or to hold by Sophie Pavelle. This was sent to me by the folks at Bloomsbury Outdoors, and I’ve picked it up now as it’s on the longlist for the Wainwright Prize. It’s about symbiosis in nature, and as someone who loves ecology, I am having a great time with it. Sophie writes in a very friendly and accessible way, so even if you aren’t a scientist, you can enjoy this.

Since my last check-in I’ve read a lot, but I’ll save those for the imminent July wrap up post and just talk about the last week for now.
Last week I read two books, both of which were physical arcs I was lucky enough to be sent by publishers.

The first book was Helm by Sarah Hall, sent to me by Faber Books, a fictional tale drawing on the historical accounts and myths of the (real) Helm wind in the Eden Valley in Cumbria. The writing in this book is incredible, there’s touches of folklore, climate and magic and I really enjoyed it. I’ll have a full review up soon.

The other book I finished was Dot Slash Magic by Liz Shipton, sent to me by Angry Robot. AI meets magic in a fast-paced, urban academic story. The MC was great, and the whole thing was bonkers in the best way. A full review will be up soon.

I’ll be continuing to read my way through the Wainwright lists. The shortlist announcement is on the 5th August, so my planned tbr might change because of that, but next I am planning to read Is a River Alive? by Rob Macfarlane.

Fiction-wise, as I said, I’ll move onto the Green Rider novella and then my arc of book 8, Falling in a Sea of Stars, which I am buzzing for!

  1. I used to be able to read 3/4 books, but since having my second son (2 years ago) I haven’t been able to get back to that 🙄

I can’t believe that it is the end of July already!

    Have a great week!

    1. I can’t believe it either, where has the year gone?!

Any amount of books is great, honestly! I anticipate my monthly amount falling in September for sure.

  2. It always feels so good to finish a chunky book! Even if it’s a re-read. I can’t believe we are at the end of the month already! Sheesh, that went fast. I hope you have a wonderful week!!
