Happy Wednesday! I’ve been a busy bee since last week’s check-in, mostly in the garden! Spring is well on it’s way now and I’ve done a lot of planting. I got some lovely hellebore and cowslips in my front shady border (woodland themed!), and I relocated a yellow rose from elsewhere in the garden. Now that was a hard job and not the digging out the rose part! The hole I dug to put it into… it was full of rocks, enough to fill a wheelbarrow. But I did it, and hopefully the rose doesn’t wilt on me!

What are you currently reading?

Gorse by Sam K. Horton is my current fiction read. I’ve been meaning to pick this one up for a while as it’s set on the moors where I live and I love stories that include local folklore. It’s very atmospheric so far and I suspect it won’t be a happy read, but I am liking what I have already read.

My nonfiction book this week is The Great Auk by Tim Birkhead. This one has been kindly sent to me before release by Bloomsbury, and it explores the life and death of the extinct Great Auk bird. I find the species fascinating, and have ever since I saw the specimen in The Natural History museum, so I’m excited to learn more about them.

What have you recently finished?

I wrapped up 3 books since the weekend, the first being Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I have a review out tomorrow, but in short it was so much fun and is possibly my new favourite scifi!

I also finished The Witch Who Trades With Death by C.M. Alongi. This was a pre-release copy sent to me by Angry Robot, and it was a great fantasy standalone. I’ll have a review up on the 23rd as I am on the blog tour.

Finally, on Monday I reread the delightful little book The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer. If you’ve read my recent posts you’ll know how much I adore her book Braiding Sweetgrass, and this is a very short little addition to the themes explored in that book.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I am still planning to pick up Wisteria by Adalyn Grace, and I need to start Where Shadows Bloom by Catherine Bakewell as that is publishing soon. Nonfiction-wise, once I have finished The Great Auk, I need to get back to New Wild Order.
