International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day!
I thought I’d do a little post today to share some of my favourite books written by women. Yesterday’s post was on a very similar subject, so definitely check that one out too: Let’s Talk Bookish: Women in STEM in books.

It’s more important than ever to celebrate women. We are 50% of the world’s population, yet we are often neglected, overlooked and undervalued in favour of men. We have been fighting for recognition but progress is slow. I feel that books by and about women are a great way to celebrate this day. Stories of women achieving things, taking control of their lives and just taking up space are inspiring, and comforting and send the message that we are here and these stories are what we want to see and we want to hear what women have to say!

Below are some books I have read and loved that are written by women. The titles underneath link to their Storygraph pages for further info. (Coincidentally, Storygraph is an amazing one-woman coded and led alternative to Goodreads!)
I have read a lot of books by women, in fact the majority of my reading each year is books by women. There are a lot that I could have included in this collection, but I didn’t want to go too overboard, so these picks are ones that I wholeheartedly recommend. Come and join me on Storygraph if you’d like to see more!

Braiding Sweetgrass || A Natural History of Dragons || Circe || Lonely Castle in the Mirror || Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries || Sistersong || The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet || Jade City || Green Rider || The Jasmine Throne || The Light Eaters || We Are All Ghosts in the Forest || The Teller of Small Fortunes || Wilding || The DallerGut Dream Department Store || Black Sun || The Surviving Sky || Strange the Dreamer

I also have a ridiculous amount of books by women on my tbr, so the below is just a small selection. I chose the ones I am the most excited to get to, ones I am planning to pick up this year. Again, titles underneath link to their Storygraph pages.

People From My Neighbourhood || Magic For Liars || Gossip from the Forest || The Memory Police || The Fifth Season || The Palace of Illusions || A River Enchanted || Nature’s Ghosts || Black Water Sister || Goddess With A Thousand Faces || Soil: The Story of a Black Mother’s Garden || Her Majesty’s Royal Coven

YOu tell me: what is one of your favourite books written by a woman?
