Reading Challenges: Friends Recommend 2025

Continuing on with my exploration of my 2025 reading challenges, next up is ‘Friends Recommend’! This one has been around for a while, so I am sure many of you know about it already, but the basic premise is that you get folks to give you book recommendations. People generally go for 12, so one book a month, but you can do any number. You can also impose rules like ‘only books on my tbr’.

For 2025, I have gone a bit wild and I have 38 books on my list! I have two ‘sets’ of online friends from whom I got book choices: a small bookish Discord of friends and my fellow r/Fantasy mods. I also had zero rules, any book could be chosen! My friends know me very well and they, for the most part, chose books they knew I would probably pick for myself at some point. My fellow mods’ choices are a bit more on the wild-card side, but honestly, I am excited about every book, as I’ve said already this is the year of reading diversification!

Prepare yourself for a wall of book covers below! Let me know what you think of the picks – are there any that you’ve already read and enjoyed?

  1. Awesome selection of books! I loveeee Maggie Stiefvater, and The Raven Boys series is simply great, I hope you will like it, too. I remember reading her Shiver series without sleeping I was so engrossed as a teenager, haha. I have 4 matching books on my TBR those are Legendborn, Piranesi, Hail Mary and Lanny! The others look so interesting and something Id enjoy reading too, Will definetely check those out. I see we have kind of simialr taste in books I might ask you for recommendations some time! :)Happy reading and can’t wait to see which book you will pick up next and what your thoughts about it would be.

I think we are very similar, I love finding book friends on the same wavelength. Definitely chat to me anytime about books! I can’t decide what to read next, there’s too many good choices!

      1. Yessss!! Your friends do have excellent book taste, indeed. The same goes for you. I’d love to maybe one day make a bookish blog together, interviewing each other about various bookish topics. I’ve always wanted to do this with my friends but never got around to it. I’m excited to see which one you will read next 🙂

      3. Absolutely! I’ve heard only good things about this one; my current read, Meet Me in Another Life, classifies as sci-fi. I’m yet to find out about the sci-fi part, though, haha
