Let’s Talk Bookish: Non-romantic love

Happy Friday all!

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly bookish discussion meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and co-hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits and Dini @DiniPandaReads. Each Friday, bloggers will write posts about a particular topic and share on their blog.

Prompts: It’s the month of love but it’s not always about romantic love. What are your favourite non-romantic relationships to read about (i.e. siblings, parent-child, etc.) and what do you love most about them? Do you prefer to read about them over romantic relationships? What books would you recommend with your favourite non-romantic relationships?

My absolute favourite type of relationship to read about is sibling relationships and specifically sister relationships. I have one sister and our relationship has evolved a lot through the years, so reading about other sisters, even fictional ones is both really interesting, and just a comforting thing as I love my sister so much.

As I said last LTB Friday, I am not really a huge romance reader, though I have been starting to enjoy books with a more prominent romance. At this point, I definitely still prefer reading about non-romantic relationships and I think that is simply down to the fact that my sibling/parent/friend relationships are more important in my personal life, so I relate and feel more strongly about them in my stories too.

Below is a collage of some of the books I’ve read with sibling relationships (not just sisters), ones that are favourites are marked with a flower symbol. I have read more than the ones pictured, but not all of them I enjoyed. I’ll also add some that are on my tbr too – I have a lot over various genres!

What’s your favourite type of relationship to read about? Any sister recommendations for me?

  3. Lovely post and an awesome bookish meme! I love reading about mother-daughter, grandparents-grandchildren and just interpersonal relationships. 🙂 I’d recommend Tom Lake by Ann Patchett I have not read it yet, but it is about a family of 3 sisters and their mother, this is all I know and I cannot wait to read it.

  5. Great post! If you love sister relationships then I think you’ll definitely enjoy Clap When You Land and The Ones We’re Meant to Find. The latter was one of my favourite YA sci-fi reads—it was so beautifully written. Jade City is one of my favourites too (that whole series deserves all the love, lol) and I hope to read The Vanishing Half this year.

Thanks for participating in this week’s LTB! 💜
