Happy Wednesday! I’m finally back on the WWW train after a couple of weeks. Busy as always, but I am really pleased the sun has come back out, even if the weather app says its only for today.
WWW Wednesday is a weekly recap meme hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words, where we share what we’re reading and what’s up next on the tbr.
What are you currently reading?
I’m doing a Pride month reading bingo with some friends (I shared my tbr in my last LTB post), and right now I am about 70% through They Bloom at Night by Trang Thanh Tran. This is a ya fantasy horror, it’s very creepy but very compelling. I’m not really a horror person but since this is ya I can manage it haha!
I am also reading A Thousand Blues by Cheon Seon-ran. I’m not too far in yet, but it’s a sweet story about a friendship between a robot and a girl. I am enjoying it so far. Plus the cover is so beautiful.
What have you recently finished?
Over the last week I made really good progress on my Pride reading. I first finished Back in a Spell by Lana Harper, book 3 in The Witches of Thistle Grove series. It’s definitely (for me) the weakest so far, but I did enjoy it.
I next read a middle grade graphic novel, The Deep Dark by Molly Knox Ostertag. There was a lot packed into this one – complex family dynamics, identity, safety and the acceptance of yourself and of others. I really loved the art style.
I also read The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo. This book was interesting, as you’re definitely meant to be an observer, one who listens from the outside. It was a book where not a lot happened, but there were many layers. I was very intrigued and I’ll definitely look into the rest of the series. Also this might win for cover of the year so far.
The last book I read last week was for Rewild YourShelf book club, The Coral Bones by E.J. Swift. A climate fiction focused on the ocean, it was very emotional and very compelling. There are three timelines that all connect in some way, and I absolutely loved Swift’s writing.
What do you think you’ll read next?
I’ll continue making my way through my Pride list, probably picking up either Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil, or The River Has Roots next.
I’ll also be picking up a nonfiction, Nature Needs You by Hannah Bourne-Taylor, about the plight of swifts here in the UK.
