Let’s Talk Bookish: Bookish Fandoms.

Happy Friday! I’m pre-writing this, so I don’t really know what to say here aside from: I am in Wales! Hopefully it’s sunny, as we love a good hike and there are many here.

Our first topic for May is bookish fandoms.

Being a primarily fantasy reader, I have definitely not missed seeing the fandoms! I wouldn’t consider myself part of any, though I do know about a lot of them as I have some good friends who adore romantasy and are absolutely part of fandoms.

It definitely does. Even as someone not part of any, I can still appreciate and hear about a lot of them! Nothing makes me happier than knowing that books can bring people together, and fandoms are one manifestation of that. The bookish community is a great place, and I hope that fandoms continue to bring people together for a log time!

  2. Great post! I also love that they exist and that people have the space to mutually gush about the things they love. Although I’ve heard and seen (from the periphery) some pretty toxic things related to fandoms over the years, I do still think it’s great that people can find such joy in this type of community.

    1. Ah yes I have heard a couple of toxic things but not too many – I only hear from my friends!

  3. Being a primarily fantasy reader, I’ve definitely encountered many of the big bookish fandoms—especially in the romantasy genre like Maas, Yarros, and others! While I wouldn’t consider myself part of any specific fandom, I have friends who are deeply involved and absolutely love it.

What I admire most is the sense of joy and community fandoms bring. Personally, I’m not an emotional reader, so I don’t tend to form strong attachments to characters or stories in that way—which makes fandom life a bit outside my lane.

Even though I’m not in a fandom myself, being part of the online book community gives me a window into that world. I love how fandoms bring readers together and spark so much creativity and conversation. It’s one of the many things that makes the bookish space so special.
