Battle of the Five Worlds/May Reading Wrap-Up

,

I had such a fantastic reading month in May with four 5-star books! I managed to read a total of twelve books during May, and sucessfully completed a bingo for the Fantasy Fellowship’s Battle of the Five Worlds. Just as well really, seeing as I was trying to set a good example as one of the Team Captains! Sadly, Team Cosmere did not win, but we did come second! Though I don’t really mind, because it was all tremendous fun and I feel very lucky to have had the most wonderful team behind me. Let’s get into some brief wrap-up’s!

Cat + Gamer: I started off with this sweet graphic novel about a girl-gamer and a little cat. It was really cute, very quick to read and I will be picking up the sequel for sure.
The Spear Cuts Through Water: My first 5-star read of the month. This book defies written explanation honestly. It’s a masterpiece in the use of language, and a very unique experience. I rambled more about this book on my Instagram here.
Lonely Castle in the Mirror: A sweet touching novel about the struggles of being a kid. It touches on bullying, depression and friendship and displays all these themes in a really unique tale.

Sky Tracer: (Full review here.) A very cool and unique setting for a journey of two powerful women. There were so many secrets, so many twists and turns and a very intense ending!
The Atlas Paradox: A solid sequel to The Atlas Six. We focus a lot more on Libby’s journey in this book and I did enjoy it more than the first. As with book 1, the atmosphere oozes out of the pages and we get to learn a lot more about the polical scheming.
Ascension: 5-star read number two! Ascension is mind-bending in the best way possible. I could not put this book down and flew through it in 3 hours before convincing about 6 different people to buy it! Mountaineering, time-warping and some really tense mystery made this one shoot to the top of my books-of-the-year list.

Murder on the Orient Express: My second Christie novel! I love the humour in her writing, it’s so very British. This was my first Poirot book and it’s so fascinating to read how his mind works, I was kept guessing untill the end, but he certainly wasn’t!
The Hunger of the Gods: The next 5-star on my list. An incredible sequel, this book was a ride from start to finish. I just love how Gwynne writes! We also get new character POV’s in this one which I found really interesting and added extra depth to the plotlines.
The Blacktongue Thief: This book was gifted to me by a friend to fit a prompt and I didn’t know a lot about it going in. It was the most fun I had with a book in a while! Very action-packed, interesting characters and I adored the tongue-in-cheek way it was written.

Lore Olympus Vol 1 & 2: I first read Lore Olympus as a WebComic and it was just as wonderful this time around as it was the first. The artwork is beautiful and vibrant, and the sotry is a modern retelling that really works thanks to the depth of the characters. There are some heavy subjects but there is also fun and sweetness.
Black Sun: (Longer review here.) My final 5-star of the month. This book was crammed with so many different things, from seafairing to politcs and gods but it read so smoothly through multiple POV’s. The setting was fabulous (Pre-Colombian Americas) and the characters were fantastically written. This was one where I was reaching for the sequel as soon as I’d turned the last page.

And there you have it! My most sucessful reading month to-date, long may this book-consuming continue! I have some fun ones lined up for June and I hopefully will get to them all, though I have pending ARC requests that might upset the tbr!
