Let’s go to Orilium!

,

Hello, hello! I thought about doing an introduction post, but I hate talking about myself, so instead we are going straight into the book stuff.

It’s time for year 2 of Orilium! I’ve been doing G’s magical readathon since its inception all those years ago, and I’ve been loving the latest iteration, Orilium.
For those who don’t know what it is, G’s video here explains it in detail, but essentially you have a character who attends a magical school, and you read books to fit prompts for the classes they take.

This year I have chosen the calling of Beast Master, and will have five books to read during April.

Elemental Studies: flowers on the cover

I chose The Luminaries by Susan Dennard for this one. Confession time: I recieved this as an audiobook ARC, and haven’t read it yet even though the book is now out, oops. As a member of The Order of the Crescent, I’ve actually been able to start this early, and am enjoying it so far, it’s very atmospheric!

Animal Studies: Flip a coin. Heads is non-fiction, tails is fiction.

I got tails for this one, so I chose Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata. I’ve been wanting to start reading contemporary fiction, and picked up a few books a little while ago that interested me. This one is the first one I really want to read from the pile, plus it’s a nice short one for the tbr!

Alchemy: Metal in the name.

I have a lack of books on my shelves with metals in the name and the few I do have I have read most of! For this one it was between Iron Widow and The Golden Enclaves. I chose The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik because I really need to start finishing some series before I start too many others! I also really want to know what happens after the cliffhanger ending of book 2…

Restoration: Random pick.

For this one, I generated a random book from the ARC’s I have available to me and ended up with The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence. I am so excited for this one. I love, love, love books with libraries, and to have a library story with a science fiction twist? Sign me right up!

Lore: Book with a map.

I had a few I could have put in here that I want to read, but so many people have told me to hurry up and get to The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne, that I felt it would be remiss of me not to take this opportunity! I know I am going to love this one a heck of a lot… maybe that’s why I put it off for so long!
